Queen Mary 2 - Hamburg Short Break
We could go to dinner any time between 6.30pm and 9pm.  There were only informal nights on this trip which was a relief.  Unusually, our table assignment card was taken from us, which doesn't happen in Britannia.  Our assistant waiter had been on the QE2, which is where I recognised her from.  People rave about Grill but I wonder if they've had anything else or this was a one off because in this instance service was terrible and worse than Britannia.  We were given a pre-starter starter which we were told was chicken and cheese something or other.  What he didn't say was it was full of red bell peppers inside, which I'm allergic to.  For crying out loud, why do chefs do this?  If it's chicken and cheese leave it as just that!  The waiter didn't even apologise when I told him I couldn't eat it.  The salmon was average, ravioli I'd had better in the Britannia while the steak had fat and gristle.  Oskar liked the way his Dover Sole was cooked at the table, filleted and the wrapping around the lemon.  Looking around, I loved how some Grill people were eating with their fingers.  The petit fours were okay since we decided to skip dessert due to the incredibly slow service.  You could pre-order the following day's dinner, which we did but the Maitre D' didn't return to tell me whether the curry had bell peppers in or not by the time we went.  We went on deck for the sunset and saw Harmony of the Seas in the distance heading back to Southampton.  Back to the cabin and saw our free minibar had been restocked.
Up during the middle of the night to get photos of the ship as she is for the final time.  The Concierge Lounge was annoyingly locked between 8pm-8am.  Why can't they have a key system like Royal Caribbean?  There was a leak next to Churchills with water dripping onto the carpet.  Kings Court was finally going to be gutted and revamped.  Todd English already had Verandah Restaurant menus up.
The Winter Garden was one of the places being changed to the Carinthia Lounge.  It was sadly one of the most unused places on the ship, mainly due to nothing going on in there.  I have often said they should have had the quizzes in there since it would not only boost bar sales, but it was much bigger than the Golden Lion.
