Norwegian Epic - Western Mediterranean
Off we toodled to have refreshments.  This wasn't bad, and better than the previous days' lardo.  It was a buffet and to drink you had a choice of red wine, white wine or water.  We had another hour here and rather too conveniently there was a shop on-site.  Since we'd been told to be back at the bus by 1.20pm, I phoned home only for Luca to tell me I had five minutes a short while later.  It turned out everyone else had buggered off!
And so back to the ship and some better dock photos today of Epic!  Lorraine and Shirley had originally planned to catch the shuttle into Civitavecchia but changed their minds and instead boarded the ship along with me.  Lorraine took my photo with the ship behind - badly - so I asked someone else then took one of him and his wife before reboarding and going to lunch.
I bumped into Shirley as she was coming out of the Garden Café and she invited me to join them outside once I'd got my lunch.  I decided to have dessert for a change which was a scoop each of butter pecan and chocolate ice cream then I went to get more photos of the ships.
It was so quiet at Spice H2O as I changed my batteries.  Bliss!  Another Pepsi refill then to the padded cell for a shower and kip until the 6pm gathering in the Lounge.  The Japanese lady was just passing through but had a good day in Rome.  Natalie decided to teach us napkin folding, which is just like origami really, and that was my cue to leave as the Captain was doing his announcement.  We didn't get many of these at the beginning but for some reason, instead of just giving us details, he would begin to ramble on about the casino, art auctions, shops etc, which is actually the job of the bing-bonging from the cruise director.  We, Liberty and Thomson Dream were for 7pm, but who'd go first?  Us!  I saw the Scottish lady, Julia, from the flight and she told me they're all really enjoying it.
Dinner and the usual Garden Café, where I thought I'd try the chicken curry which, despite being green, was very tasty.  I was shattered again and had never slept so much on a cruise.  I did some internet while waiting for Linda to call then I popped up a deck to help her find the onboard account on the TV.  Her door had a spyhole, which she said had not long been put in.  Mine didn't.  Back down afterwards, finished the internet, painkiller for my back then sleeeeeeeep!
Morning was Napoli and yet another early morning arrival in the dark.  Again, we and Liberty were due for 7am.  We were ahead with Liberty up our bum while near her was Seven Seas Voyager heading to Sorrento.  Grand Holiday was listed for 10am but was coming as Liberty finished docking and was alongside herself by 8.30am.  As I waited, I went up to deck 18, which was closed during my original cruise and I hadn't had a chance to see during this one.  It was very disappointing the forward part was for the exclusive use of rich bastards in the Haven Suites (formerly known as Villas).
Breakfast in O'Sheehan's today for a change.  I'd had the most perfect cheese and tomato omelette the first time so I wondered if it would be as good.  Not quite.  Whereas the cheese had completely melted before, this hadn't and also there was no tomato in it.  The orange juice was diluted but still tasted of orange.  Whether it was concentrate or the gunk from the buffet which all cruise lines tend to use now, I have no idea.  Afterwards it was bed!  I had already decided to rest my back and not book another excursion or go ashore and it was a good job because it was really starting to hurt.  This is actually where I discovered the late starting time.  On other ships, the cabin would be done.  But I had to kill time to make sure it had been.  When I did go back at 9.30am, not only had both bins been emptied but I had a new tissue box - woo!!!!
And so up for our final ship of the day - Costa Atlantica, who was arriving at the more civilised time of 1pm so light!  I'd seen her in Southampton a month earlier when Dover was closed due to bad weather so she (and AIDAblu) were diverted.  I chatted to a couple from Huddersfield for a while.  I wish my mum were alive so I could tell her I met people from where her dad was born.  Then I went for food and joined Linda.  She had decided to walk into the city but I decided to go back to bed.  All this bed would have been so much better with a bloke - wouldn't fall asleep so easily!
Grand Holiday was sailing at 5pm so I went up.  As she disappeared behind Liberty, she gave three blasts to which Liberty replied - eventually!  It had cooled a little, sun doing a brief disappearing act while I was snoozing.
The daily meet which was a good laugh.  It's a shame Natalie was coming to the end of her contract and wouldn't be back.  I hope her next job is a good one.  She was really looking forward to her boyfriend boarding for the next cruise.  Up for sailaway with Annette and Linda.  Again, we and Liberty were 7pm, along with the Costa.  This time Liberty slipped out first, followed by the Costa.  We dropped our ropes twenty-five minutes late.  That would be the last I'd see of Liberty until Tenerife a few weeks later when she was on her repositioning back to Florida.

I went to freshen up while Annette and Linda headed to Taste.  Despite a few of us going, there was no sign of many so the three of us waiting outside went to the desk and were led to our table and found the others.  Natalie hadnt said to just go in.  The vibration was terrible and loud!  Tommy and Sandra from Belfast, Christina, Amy, Carol, Sandra from muster and some others whose names I didn’t catch were on my table.  The food was good.

One by one they all went.  Annette, Carol and I went after 11pm, some of the last stragglers with Liam, Angie and Alison from Canada, who spent the past three days attached to an IV.  She told us they hadn't had the correct drugs in the medical centre so had to use hers.  You learn something every day.  She said they could smell the fuel in the cabin during bunkers.  Liam had his gratuities removed for various reasons, none of which he gave.  But then Liam had also got several of them a free meal in Moderno's a couple of nights before when he found chewing gum on his chair.  Apparently, they offered to give him only a free meal and wine but he insisted the whole table had it.  I was back in the padded cell by midnight, otherwise I'd turn into a pumpkin!  I noticed the Freestyle Daily was rather different than usual.  Some internet and then bed!

It was another sea day - yay!  Woken by the Captain again at 9.30am.  He went on for ten minutes and it could have been done in a fraction of the time.  Back to sleep a while longer until almost noon when I thought I'd better shift my backside.  It was a gorgeous day, albeit a little chilly and breezy, as we passed under Sardinia.  O'Sheehan's beckoned to try the chicken strips and chicken pot pie - yummy!  The pie came with a spoon so it really was a good job I'd kept my knife and fork because you need it to break the pastry otherwise the sauce goes everywhere.  Or am I just clumsy?  I took advantage of the land signal to phone home then headed to the stern, bumping into Linda on the way.

Another Pepsi refill then back to the padded cell and another kip after washing my hair.  For the first time, I noticed a little arrow on the floor and wondered what it represented.  Maybe saying, "Weld here" or, "This way to the toilet".  The lights kept going off because the improvised card was no longer strong enough to keep the switch pressed so in went the one Claire Riches had given me at Steve Read's funeral which helped keep them on.  I don't know whether she's still Head of Marketing at NCL or not, but her card was just the right size.

Although I had booked the Blue Man Group, I popped my head into the Lounge for the singles meet before heading to the theatre.  Doors opened at 6.15pm for the 7pm performance and it filled up very slowly.  But why do old people with mobility problems ALWAYS arrive near time, meaning they have to climb over people to get a seat?  The show lasted 85 minutes without interval and photographs or video were prohibited.  Several people walked out, including the miserable old German couple beside me who hadn't cracked a smile then proceeded to trample over my feet, with no apology, to get out.  Let's get this straight.  Blue Man Group is for perfect the Tiswas generation because it isn't serious entertainment.  If you enjoy mess with paint and some childish things while having a good laugh and being thoroughly entertained by some amazing moments, it's a must-see.  If you were a Swap Shop person, avoid!  The good thing for everyone who walked out is it was a free show so at least NCL wouldn't have abuse hurled at them from people demanding their money back.  Afterwards you could have your photo taken with a Blue Man.  I bumped into Carol, who was in the cheap seats for the second show of Cirque Dreams.  I hadn't been in the Manhattan Room this trip, apart from excursion meets, so went to the other end of the ship only to find a massive queue.  Are these people used to other cruise lines where you have a mean at a set time, thereby not understanding the Freestyle concept of eat where and when you like?  I had noticed Taste was packed too when I'd walked by or was at the solos meal.  With the number of eating places on NCL there is absolutely no need to wait.  Back to the Garden Café then a stroll on deck!  I popped down to La Cucina to check my booking for the following night.  The hostess said it was 7.45pm but my e-docs had 7.30pm.  At least the booking had gone through but with it was listed on the Vacation Planner like excursions, Cirque Dreams and Blue Man Group.  Then it was time for bed since it was another early start.
