These photos were taken from Mayflower Park, outside Dock Gate 8 and the Blue Funnel ferry Jenny R, which did a one hour harbour trip from Town Quay, on the 1st May 2006 Unsurprisingly, for such a new and huge ship, the trip was very popular, especially for a mere £10. |

The marina was cold but crowded on the night of the 1st May 2006 for the fireworks and light show. The fireworks started four minutes late at 10.34pm and lasted about seven minutes, with the light show coming from the dock, though not on the ship unfortunately. When they'd finished, Freedom blasted three times on her horn. The following photos are the best I could get. |

She had a disco on deck so loud we could hear it. It was quite enjoyable. Several people left after the fireworks while others came afterwards. She gently eased herself away from the berth around 10.50pm and gave three more blasts as she headed towards the turning circle. There was no movement for such a long time and we thought she was stuck. I was having visions of greeting Legend of the Seas when she arrived for 5am the following morning! Eventually she did turn towards us then headed out and down the water at a pace, giving another three blasts of her horn at 11.32pm. The disco was still going but the volume had been turned down. |
