The Marco Polo Christmas cruise highlight on the 31st December 2019 as we arrived in Madeira. I had last seen in the New Year here in 2007 on Aurora but it was my dad's first time to experience this and the Canary Islands. He had been looking forward to this the most. Queen Victoria was slightly ahead of us when I got up. Ocean Majesty and Aurora had arrived the day before. Vicky followed Columbus as docked as we went to our own anchorage. The wind was ridiculous which also made it colder. Marella Explorer followed us. Our and Columbus's tendering operations were delayed and delayed, eventually giving up around 12.30pm. Balmoral arrived by 4.30pm. Around 6pm, Aurora left her berth to tootle before returning in time for the fireworks. Vicky and AIDAstella went to anchor too while Marella Explorer docked. As we swung, we had a lovely view of the ships from the window during dinner. By midnight, we'd been joined by AIDAcara and Amera. Amera was the former Prinsendam. We sailed as soon as the fireworks were over. |
