On the 25th April 2004 Queen Mary 2 and Queen Elizabeth 2 left Manhattan on a joint sailing to fireworks by the Statue of Liberty. QE2 left first then they sailed in tandem across the Atlantic, QE2 arriving first on the 1st May as she was docking at the Mayflower Terminal to prepare to leave around 3pm for her refit in Bremerhaven after handing over the Boston Cup to her successor. I had surgery a couple of weeks earlier so was unfortunately unable to get down for the first time QE2 passed her baby (some baby!) sister.
