Our final port stop was Olden and it had been a bouncy old night. We hadn't gone out to open sea but hugged the coast and cut through Frøysjøen fjord. I decided to have another lie in so my dad had breakfast alone. Since neither of us had good mobility, we decided to just have a lazy day. I left him in the Observatory with his phone while I went and took photos. There was a crew drill, which was listed in the Daily Times as happening in Flåm. No idea why it didn't. It was for a fire, with smoke coming from a vent on deck 8 by the jacuzzi to simulate it, so I watched for a while. Then I went ashore for some pictures of this gorgeous ship in our surroundings. That's the best thing about Norway when you go to ports like this. We had lunch then hung around in the Morning Light until Orana had done the cabin since the drill had set her back. Sailaway was 3pm and very windy as we sailed down Nordfjord, to the point the wet varnish signs were being ripped up, so we went into the Observatory and sat with the lady from Birmingham and her son where we had a delicious hot chocolate each then the buffet for 6.30pm since we missed afternoon tea. The scenery was wonderful as we made our way south towards Ãkerfjord, scenic cruising the entire way so there was always something to look at en route. I went aft to get the sunset before the delicious dinner, which had garlic bread with the pasta. Supper Club was now a regular trip and this night was British Pub. Azura and Rotterdam were both going from Stavanger to Flåm. Then I went to bed. There was another problem with the toilet. This time is made a loud noise and sucked all the water out several times but did settle down. |

| Early start since the Daily Times stated we would be cruising Åkerfjord and the Langfoss Waterfall between 7.30-8.30am. We decided we'd have breakfast as we sailed back out, which was a good idea since we were there earlier and at the waterfall by 7.30am. It's things like this which make me prefer smaller ships. Main lines with smaller have no imagination when it comes to itineraries. Even luxury lines tend to do the same trips as those with megaships. Fred have so many itins different to everyone else, especially scenic cruising. It really sets them apart. The whole trip confirmed my choice of this trip was right over MSC Magnifica I'd considered the same week. The waterfall is the 5th largest in Norway but not attached to the hydro power system apparently. We did a 360º turn and headed back the way we'd come as we went to the Grampian, which was packed. The Maitre 'D got us a table by the window overlooking the stern. As we were leaving, our waiter told us he'd given Wednesday's menus to pre-order dinner by mistake so we had to do that before going to the cabin. Orana asked if we were going to the crew show as she was in it. She seemed very excited about it. We went to open sea as we made our way to the Karmsund Strait. I had seem a picture of Black Watch going under the Karmsund Bridge and I couldn't wait for us to do the same. My dad kept an eye on the webcam and info channel while I checked Marine Traffic, which had us way behind, then we headed up when we saw rocks ahead. Again, we were early. The Daily Times said Cruising Karmsund 12.15-1.15pm. We'd passed under the bridge by then so many missed it due to the very late announcement. We dropped the pilot at 12.35pm and went in for lunch. |
