Norwegian Breakaway - Transatlantic from Southampton to New York

Another lie in on the 3rd May and another hour gained.  Now there had been absolutely NO announcements at all in the cabins but I was rudely woken up suddenly by one for bloody bingo!  PISS OFF!!!!  I got up after 11am and went for lunch in the Garden Cafe.  Rock of Ages was on this night, having been postponed during the press/travel agent showcase, John Honeywell told me, due to one of the cast suffering tendonitis.  I was booked to see the 10pm show on the 3rd though have to confess I'd never heard of it until NCL announced it would be on the ship.  After lunch, I reported my aircon AGAIN about 1pm, bumped into Mary Jane who was ahead of me so we arranged to meet at 4pm for a drink somewhere then returned to the cabin to wait.  A maintenance man turned up after forty minutes, tested the heat next to the vent near the ceiling and announced it was 25c.  Well it would be right there!  Try being by the bed or come out of the warmer bathroom then see how bloody cold it was.  After all, everyone knows heat rises.  He went but returned with a friend two hours later to increase the heat!  As he started, the telly went off.  Turned out he'd knocked something.

I went to meet Mary Jane but she wasn't there so I went to her cabin on deck 10 then we found a nice spot in the Atrium and had a drink while watching the Wii games.  Mark and Marie came along and sat with us.  It was optional formal and a chance to have your photo taken with Captain Håvard Ramsøy but Mary Jane left before he arrived.  Surprisingly, the photo queue was short and despite someone saying to have your keycard to be scanned by the photographer, the girl taking photos said they'd be on display so you didn't need it.  They went to dinner in the Manhattan Room while I went to see The Second City in Headliners.  I had no idea what it was, having been so knackered during my week long Epic cruise I was having early nights, but it turned out to be like the old British radio and TV show, Whose Line is it Anyway? (later made for US TV) and even the games were identical.  It was very funny though especially the musicals section when a German suggested one about England winning the World Cup.  I think the bloke pretending to be the footballer was trying to be David Beckham but not sure.

Then dinner in the Garden Cafe.  I really liked the vast selection throughout the day, though had yet to have breakfast there.  I'd arranged to meet Mark, Marie, Carol and Will in Headliners for Howl at the Moon.  This was something else I'd missed on Epic due to tiredness.  It began at 9.30pm and was scheduled to run four hours.  Many people put in song requests before it began.  Will had his played.  While they were all very good, it did seem to be a fix regarding what they played.  Not only would they sort songs into piles then choose from one only, but they would also play more recent ones which had money included.  Marie had put hers in just before they began and three hours later there was still nothing while they continuted the ones with cash so we all gave up and went our separate ways.  The cabin was definitely warmer.  Not great but more tolerable.

Another hour gained on the 3rd May and for some reason I woke up after 9am so had a quick look on Twitter.  As I was about to go back to sleep, I heard a loud slam against the window, opened the curtains and saw fabulous waves!  After waiting an hour for it to whack again, I gave up and went back to sleep a happy cruiser for an hour or so.  Lunch in O'Sheehan's followed by some pics from the Prom deck.  Rob O'Brien's friend Bill was out there so after I'd had my photo taken by a crew member, we had a chat.  It was a bit chilly so glad I brought my Norwegian Gem top, the only one I've found with long sleeves.  Although the ship was pretty stable despite the swells as opposed to wind (which was merely a force 4), they cancelled Cirque Dreams for safety.  I had a nap in the afternoon then a wander after dinner in the Garden Cafe.

Now some passengers had been going around the ship with Inaugural Transatlantic canvas bags yet I and many others, including Mark and Marie, hadn't received one.  Even Rob's friend Bill had one left on his bed and he was on my deck.  I spoke to the other steward Nikki, who said he had delivered all of his the night before but would ask his supervisor if there were any left.  Since he pretended there and then to dial his supervisor's number, I was sceptical.  I went to Rock of Ages, meeting Mark and Marie. which began at 10pm and ended at 11.45pm.  The time really flew and the show was fantastic, with a few references to the ship.  We went for a walk around the Waterfront and despite the swells, the ship was still handling it beautifully with no need to grab rails while trying to stay upright like on others.  They then went to bed while I went to photograph some rooms after having a quick tuna sandwich from O'Sheehan's.  I also popped to Guest Services to ask about these bags and was told they were gifts from their travel agents.  More bollocks since those who had received them were not only different nationalities, they also booked through different travel agents or direct with NCL.  What the hell was going on with these bags and why were only a small number of passengers getting one instead of everyone?  Haven or Gold Latitudes only I could understand but not first timers and others and not near the beginning of the cruise so those without could see the rest flaunt them.
